Micky Nesmith one of the stars of the Monkees has died at the age of 78

He was the singer and guitarist for The Monkees. Mike Nesmith died at the age of 78, his spokesman said.

Is best known for being in an American pop group that became famous around the world in the 1960s. He was also an author and a businessman who did very well.

Nesmith died this morning at home with his family around him, peacefully, and of natural causes.

Nesmith worked with Davy Jones, Micky Dolenz, and Peter Tork to write some of the most popular songs of the 1980s like I'm A Believer, Daydream Believer, and Last Train To Clarksville. These songs are still popular today.

He also starred in the group's successful TV show, which ran from 1966 to 1968, and he did that too.

On Friday morning, he died of natural causes at the age of 78.

Micky Dolenz, the last surviving member of the band, said: "I'm heartbroken. Friend and partner: I've lost a good friend.

"The last few months we spent together doing what we enjoy most - singing, laughing, and doing crap was the best time of my life."

Sorry to hear about Mike Nesmith. Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys tweeted, "I'm sorry to hear about Mike Nesmith." When the Monkees were together, they had a lot of great songs. Those were fun days! Brian: Mike's family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

He said: "Wow! Sobering: I watch my world change as people who I thought were eternal die, and that makes me sad. People die, but life goes on. We bid our goodbyes to Mike Nesmith with tremendous regret.

Singer Gary Numan said: "This is sad news. Friends and I formed a band called The Monkee Juniors when we were about 9 or 10. We sang along to The Monkees records in the homes of people in our street for money. I was Mike Nesmith in the line-up, so I had to be in the group. It turns out he was more talented than people thought he was.

In a magic show, Penn Jillette said: "Mike Nesmith was my first big artistic hero." He makes me who I am. It's love that you bring, and I can't say no. With your wings, you taught me to fly. Mike Nesmith was a sweet young man when he was a child.

It said Midge Ure thought Nesmith was a "talented artist" who was "underappreciated and underappreciated."

Nigel Nesmith kept making music after the band broke up. He played with First National Band and as a solo artist after the band broke up.

Afterward, he became a filmmaker and won the first Grammy Award for best video of the year in 1981 for an hour-long TV show called Elephant Parts.

Iconic sci-fi comedy Repo Man was also made by Nesmith. It was made in 1984 and had Emilio Estevez and Harry Dean Stanton in it.

It's been almost three years since his bandmate, Peter Tork, died at the age of 77. He was best known as the keyboardist and bassist in the group.

Davy Jones, who was born in the United Kingdom, passed away in 2012 at the age of 66.
